Catalogado como NGC5139 este cúmulo globular de estrellas fue descubierto en 1677 por Edmond Halley. Este cúmulo orbita nuestra galaxia a unos 18,500 años luz de distancia y se estima que contiene 10'000,000 de soles de todas las edades. Se piensa que en alguna época fue una galaxia enana que interactuó con la nuestra, quien fue absorbiendo el material estelar de aquella. Omega Centauri es un objeto tan grande y brillante, que en algún lugar muy obscuro puede verse a simple vista. Recomiendo verlo en un telescopio dobsoniano de mas de 12 pulgadas, es una vista espectacular.
Para esta fotografía utilicé el telescopio Epsilon 180 ED y la cámara Canon 20Da. Espero tener la oportunidad de volver a hacer esta fotografía usando una cámara CCD.

Listed as this globular cluster NGC5139 was discovered in 1677 by Edmond Halley. This cluster orbits our galaxy light about 18.500 years away and is estimated to contain 10'000, 000 soles of all ages. It is thought that at one time was a dwarf galaxy that interacted with ours, who was absorbing the stellar material of that. Omega Centauri is an object as large and bright, very dark somewhere you can see at a glance. I recommend him in a Dobsonian telescope over 12 inches, is a spectacular sight.
For this photograph I used the Epsilon 180 ED telescope and Canon 20Da. I look forward to returning to this photograph using a CCD camera.
